Kundasang has many good accommodations, from budget to expensive ones. A big room with a nice view (or a balcony) is typically more expensive than a small room without any of the mentioned. If you’re looking for accommodation near town and with a beautiful view of the highest peak in Malaysia, you might want to consider Amazing Grace Lodge.
Amazing Grace Lodge is a property in Kundasang that offers guests a stunning view of Mount Kinabalu. Regardless of room type, guests can appreciate the mountain’s beauty or capture beautiful moments with it, whether from the property’s event hall or from the parking lot.

About Amazing Grace Lodge
Located in Kampung Sinisan, Kundasang, Amazing Grace Lodge is a two-storey property with a great view of Mount Kinabalu. It has a humble and welcoming appearance that matches the country feel many people look for when visiting Kundasang. A large portion of the property is made of wood.
Upon arriving at the property, guests will be greeted by beautiful blooms and the property’s big signage. You can see Mount Kinabalu clearly if very few (or none) clouds are covering the mountain.
Gorgeous Mount Kinabalu View
Amazing Grace Lodge isn’t the cheapest property in Kundasang, but it may be a value for money for guests looking to wake up to Mount Kinabalu in the morning – or watch the beautiful sunset in the evening.
During my visit to Amazing Grace Lodge with friends and family, we had the chance to enjoy Mount Kinabalu’s lovely sunrise and sunset from our family suite’s balcony.
Note: Don’t worry if you don’t have a room with a balcony; you can still capture memorable Mount Kinabalu photos from the property’s parking lot or event hall.
Various Room Options
There are many room types to choose from at Amazing Grace Lodge, and their availability depends on the dates you book. The property offers Deluxe Queen Room with Garden View (the most affordable option), Family Studio, Family Suite with Balcony, and more.
I stayed in the Family Suite with Balcony during my last trip to Kundasang. It’s the most expensive, costing close to RM500/night. However, when shared with a group of 6 or more, the room is quite affordable. It’s suitable for 8 people. If you need an extra mattress, you can request one from the property.
Spacious Event Hall
Outside the property, you’ll find an event hall. It’s big enough to accommodate a small event with more than 20 people. To hold an event here, it’s best to inform the property in advance as it might be booked up on the day or time you want to hold your event.
Those who don’t plan to hold an event at the event hall can make use of it, too. For example, you can use the area to hold light and easy activities with a group of friends, from playing board games (there are puzzles or board games provided upon request) to dancing. But it may be helpful to inform the staff if you plan on having a small karaoke session or using loudspeakers there.
There’s a bench for guests to sit on or use when taking photos with Mount Kinabalu in the background.
Garden With Beautiful Orchids
As discussed earlier, guests will be greeted by beautiful flowers upon arriving at the property. You can see more blooms within the premise and in the flower garden.
Guests who book a room with a garden view can wake up to the property’s lovely blooms every morning. Those who don’t get a room with a garden view can always walk to the garden and relax there.
Good WiFi and Free Parking
From my experience, Amazing Grace Lodge offers good WiFi. I was able to stream online content smoothly from my room. The internet connection was also good outside of the room.
For guests with their own vehicles, note that there’s free parking available at the property. From the open-air parking lot, guests can see Mount Kinabalu clearly. Alternatively, there’s also a shaded parking lot near the event hall.
Family Suite with Balcony for Families or Group Travels
The Family Suite with Balcony is suitable for families or group travels. As discussed earlier, it can accommodate more than 6 people.
Overall, I thought the room was good. It offers a stunning view of Mount Kinabalu. The room on the right-hand side has a garden view, so technically the Family Suite with Balcony offers guests mountain and garden views.
Facilitiy-wise, the Family Suite with Balcony has most of the things guests would need, including an iron, a hair dryer, and cooking utensils.
Cooking in a Spacious and Well-Equipped Kitchen
Since my friends and I got the Family Suite with Balcony, we had a kitchen that allowed us to cook meals ourselves.
Since my friends and I got the Family Suite with Balcony, we had a kitchen that allowed us to cook meals ourselves, helping us to save on eating out. We cooked local vegetables that we bought from the Kundasang vegetable market.
There was a dining table in the kitchen where we could enjoy our meals with the beautiful outside view.
Sleeping on the Floor
Every room had two big mattresses without bed frames, meaning we had to sleep on the floor. It wasn’t a problem for us. However, I can imagine that such might be a problem for people with back problems.
If you can’t or don’t prefer to sleep on the floor, you might want to consider another accommodation; The Hill Kundasang is a good option.
Blankets and Hair Dryers Could’ve Been Better
Other things I noticed were thin blankets. They were fleece blankets, but they barely covered me and my mom at night. Kundasang can get quite cold at night, so it would be helpful for the property to provide guests with better blankets next time. On the bright side, the mattresses were cosy.
There was a hair dryer in my room and while it was working properly for the first few minutes, it blew up right after when used at the highest temperature setting.
Is Amazing Grace Lodge Value for Money?
Amazing Grace Lodge is a value for money, in my opinion. The Family Suite with Balcony where I stayed with friends and family was clean. We had a lovely stay. The Mount Kinabalu from the balcony was what we loved the most about our room. Additionally, the staff were nice.
If there’s something the accommodation could improve, I’d say the blankets. They could be bigger and thicker.
One thing to note is that the property isn’t very soundproof. You can hear loud footsteps if your neighbours upstairs stomp their feet, run, or walk loudly.
Final Thoughts
Amazing Grace Lodge is worth considering if you’re looking to stay for a night or more in a property in Kundasang with a great view of Mount Kinabalu. It may not be the cheapest accommodation around, but it’s value for money. There are many room types to choose from, such as rooms with a garden or mountain view. For group travels, the Family Suite with Balcony is a good option.
Amazing Grace Lodge also welcomes guests to celebrate special occasions or events at its event hall. Also, there’s a parking lot big enough for guests to park their vehicles.
