Marigold Hotel Hanoi front desk

If you’re looking for a nice and affordable hotel in Hoàn Kiếm, you could consider Marigold Hotel Hanoi. It has good ratings on Google, which is not surprising, considering the hotel’s quality service and rooms. I spent a night at the hotel and thought it would be worth mentioning.

Marigold Hotel Hanoi is available on Agoda and Booking.com. I booked mine through Booking.com for RM103/night. Sure, it wasn’t the cheapest hotel in the area, but overall, I thought it was value for money.

Keep reading as I share my experience at the hotel in more detail.

About Marigold Hotel Hanoi

Located in Hoàn Kiếm, Marigold Hotel Hanoi is a 3-star hotel with over 9-star ratings on Booking.com; I can understand why. The hotel is 17 minutes from Hoàn Kiếm Lake and about 1.3 km from the city centre. From the Hanoi Old City Gate, it takes about 6 minutes to get to the hotel on foot.

The hotel has a 24-hour front desk, meaning guests can enter and exit the hotel conveniently or seek assistance anytime. Facility-wise, Marigold Hotel Hanoi has many of the basics, such as air-conditioning, a fridge, a water boiler, a bidet (hooray!), and a desk.

Other facilities include free WiFi, laundry service, and a lift. If you need transport to the airport, the hotel offers an airport shuttle.

Regarding room choices, choose between the hotel’s Standard Double Room, Superior Double Room, Deluxe Double Room, Premium Double Room, Premium Twin Room, and Executive Suite. You can choose whether you want a smoking or non-smoking room.

Getting There

From Noi Bai International Airport, it takes about 30 minutes to get to the hotel by car. However, you might take longer to get to the hotel if you can’t find it; the hotel is quite hidden, so finding it isn’t always straightforward.

However, the rule of thumb is to walk through a small road (Gầm Cầu Street) where you can see street sellers and local motorbikes parking at parking lots. The road is often crowded, so unless you’re using a motorbike, I don’t recommend driving through the road. You’ll find the hotel in a small alley (alley 12) either on your right or left-hand side, depending on which junction you take to get to the road.

After entering the small alley, you should see the hotel’s signage. You’ll see red-tiled floors outside the hotel.

My Thoughts on Marigold Hotel Hanoi

I booked a Standard Double Room for a night. The room was on the first floor, so I didn’t have to take the lift. I must say that it’s one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in during my recent trip to Vietnam.

I thought the hotel was lovely. There wasn’t much noise while I was there, which is good, considering how loud Vietnam can be. The following are my thoughts on my stay at Marigold Hotel Hanoi:

Friendly and Helpful Front Desk

Before checking into the hotel, my Grab driver couldn’t find the hotel’s exact location, although we were close. The driver called the hotel, and eventually, the receptionist offered to pick me up. Since I didn’t want to wait, I told the driver I would find the hotel myself.

It turned out that the hotel wasn’t exactly by the roadside; it was inside a small alley within Gầm Cầu Street. The hotel receptionist was about to pick me up when I arrived. I thanked the receptionist for her offer to pick me up. She then helped me with the check-in.

Spacious Room

My Standard Double Room was spacious. I loved it. There was a lot of room for yoga, dancing, exercise and stretching routines, and even a light run. There was a working desk where I could happily do my work. Since I didn’t work that day, I didn’t use the desk for work that day.

For the price I paid, I thought it was a value for money. Note: I’m on Genius Level 2 on Booking.com, hence the price I paid. I got a 12% Genius discount (before taxes and charges) for this room.

Quiet Room With a Comfortable Bed

The bed was so comfortable that I went to bed early that night. After a long day of travelling, all I wanted was to relax. I was supposed to go out that night, but I fell asleep. I slept well throughout the night.

My sleep quality was good overall. Considering the hotel’s location – shops everywhere and a train track nearby – I thought I would be awoken by people screaming outside or loud honking. Surprisingly, the room was pretty quiet, except when guests from the above room flushed their toilet. I could hear the flushing sound and the toilet refilling.

Thankfully, the hotel’s guests were quiet.

Nice Bathroom and Toilet

The bathroom and toilet area were spacious. There’s a separation between the shower and the toilet. Toiletries like a dental kit, a comb, and cotton buds were provided. The floor was dry, and all the towels were arranged nicely. Everything seemed nice, although I thought the toilet bowl could’ve been cleaner.

Fast and Reliable WiFi

The hotel’s Internet connection was pretty good, at least on the first floor. I didn’t have trouble streaming YouTube or using online messaging apps during my stay. A digital nomad might want to consider staying here. Who doesn’t like a comfortable room with good WiFi?

Would I Stay at Marigold Hotel Hanoi Again?

All things considered, I thought the hotel was value for money. I’ve stayed in pricier hotels with the same quality before. No breakfast was provided, but that was fine as there were many local restaurants nearby.

I would stay at Marigold Hotel Hanoi. The hotel had a lovely extra-large double bed that was so comfortable I didn’t have trouble sleeping. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful, too. Overall, the hotel was clean and quiet. It’s perfect for solo travellers, couples, and families.

If I had to rate my level of satisfaction, it would be 4.5 out of 5. Do I recommend this hotel? Absolutely.

I found this lovely Hanoi accommodation in the Old Quarter during one of my solo trips to Vietnam. It’s not difficult to find the street where the property is located, although finding the unit can get a little confusing.

There’s a grumpy-looking old man sitting near the stairs – he’s the gatekeeper I think. According to the property owner, the gatekeeper always looks grumpy, but that’s just how he always looks. Just say hi to him and proceed to find the unit, located on the upper floor.

The property owner will give you the property’s location and guide you a couple of days prior to your arrival.
